Aug. 2nd, 2006 09:49 amYesterday I watched the garbage being collected with some concern and thought of how much hotter it was projected to be today. Today I just watched the truck that cleans the street appear, and noted how many of the windows appeared not to open. I wonder how many people collecting garbage or cleaning the streets will have heat stroke by the end of the day? I keep thinking that maybe there needs to be some way to declare a heat emergency, much like how many things are closed in a blizzard, where non-essential services that keep people outside in extreme heat get delayed for a day or canceled.
