A question for folks who know more about sewing than I do. Is it possible to mend the seam on the outer layer of a water resistant winter coat by machine? Ben's coat is rapidly splitting under one armpit, and it is going to be a lot easier to salvage if I can fix it before it splits even further. I have essentially no machine sewing experience or skill, and hence no clue if this it even worth attempting. It would have to be sewn through the waterproof outer layer of the coat to repair the seam. I attempted to repair it by hand sewing, but at this point my wrists and hands have deteriorated to the point where it isn't physically possible for me to do it that way.
