We have two quite old black chairs with ancient paint. We discovered years ago that the paint comes off if the chair gets wet, thus often staining whatever damp object is placed upon it. Today, however, I discover that isopropyl alcohol, which I would generally consider to be a much more effective solvent than water, does *not* appear to take off the paint.
