The new baby carrier is great. Chip took Benjamin for a walk in it after I had gone to bed, and they are off on another adventure this morning. (The old one was hurting Chip's back, but in this one he could go miles. It is padded well, and large enough, so Benjamin is very comfortable in it.)

I guess it makes sense that if you want a piece of equipment to carry a child, a backpack designer will probably make something considerably better than a baby products designer.

well, a baby is about the same weight as a set of books for a day's classes, except in a slightly different configuration.

Maybe for a middle-schooler. The bags that the Academy kids hauled around were more the size of a large 2-year-old (~40lbs).
