There have been several dozen kids already. I thought Chip had bought *way* more candy than we would need, based on the numbers from last year, but we look likely to run out...

(hmm... I wonder if the neighbors have decided this year that we aren't so scary after all, or if all these kids are coming from a few blocks away, and so don't know that we are Those Very Scary Weird People that make their parents so nervous...)

last year was definitely smaller than usual in our neighborhood.

There was a lot of paranoia last year after 9/11. This extended to terrorists targeting kids by giving them poisoned candy. I think the general mood was pretty somber, too, so soon after the event.
