After months of begging to use mine, Benjamin now has a keyboard of his very own. (I knew there had to be an unused keyboard somewhere in the box of cruft in the study...) I think it shall be several years before I am brave enough to hook it up to anything, however. ("So how exactly did you learn that your kid had discovered ebay?")

Yep, we gave the kids their own keyboards quite early.

Heh, Isaac has his own keyboard and it's gathering dust on the floor under the computer desk. He knows the difference and isn't having any of that. (Same deal with the cordless phone I gave him so he would stop wanting to push the buttons on mine.) Ah well. ;)

Chip's sister gave Benjamin an old cellphone that no longer worked. He loved it for a short time, until he figured out that it didn't really do anything the operational phones did. Now he has no interest in it whatsoever.

BTW, you probably want to let whomever is relevant know that you will be out Thursday afternoon for Benjamin's pediatric appointment (and then again the afternoon of Tuesday the 7th for my doctor's appointment.)

And while I am using lj comments for logistics: The battery pack on the camera is dead, and I can't find the other one. (I wanted to take cute Baby with Keyboard pictures.)

Suggest you keep an eye on the keyboard, as key caps can come off and might be termed something that can be put into his mouth, etc. But yeah, it will likely work until he discovers it doesn't do anything. I recall my mom gave me a "toy iron" that was utterly useless. I wanted to help mom with the ironing of the laundry, but with a useless iron I was not helping! Of course, when I pointed out to her that the iron was useless, I put my hand on the "hot" part of the iron. Mom likely thought that since I was touching the "hot" part (even though it was to prove to mom it wasn't hot) that I "obviously" would do the same with a hot iron and burn myself.

If he manages to pry the keys off, they certainly could be a choking hazard. He doesn't really have the keyboard without supervision, however.
