Clearly I spoke too soon. He's been crying and screaming and clearly in pain for the last hour (although it could be something else. He isn't really chewing on things all that much.)

Whiskey on the gums, woman, didn't your parents raise you right? VBG, that's what I was taught anyway. I'm sure that is one of the reasons my friends are glad I didn't have kids ;-)

I can't imagine whiskey would be any worse than the commercial teething gels. My mother's family apparently used clove oil. I don't know how effective it was, but it is a bit of an anesthetic.

Consider rubbing some anise or licorice oil on his gums.
