Benjamin, after being ok much of Wednesday, is now having a lot of coughing and congestion that is keeping him up. Neither Chip nor I can survive too well on this little sleep.
Forgive me if this is redundant or useless information, but: can you get him sleeping more upright? Prop up the head end of the crib (some cribs have multiple positions for the mattress frame). In extreme cases if he'll sleep in the car seat put that in the crib. Upright vastly improves drainage.
Also suggest timing meds so they're maximally effective when he's going to sleep (usually means giving them half an hour before bed or nap times).
And of course, you have my sympathies and all the btdt empathy of a two-timer.
Both sympathy and advice are welcome. Thank you. :-) (And I would far rather someone give me possibly redundant advice than not give me advice it turns out I might not have and could have found useful.)
We thought about propping him up on a pillow (he sleeps in our bed), but then we were able to get him to stay asleep. Worth thinking about next time, however. I discovered that if I put him down on his side, without letting him get fully supine, he's much more likely to get settled.
I'm actually kind of nervous about the suffocation potential of propping him on the pillow on top of the mattress, even with us right there, but I want to try putting it *under* the mattress to elevate the corner he sleeps in.
I also think we need to actually start giving him decongestant medicine. At the moment he is so congested that he won't take any milk at all, because he is having too much trouble breathing through his nose when he sucks.
Oh hon, I'm sorry. *hugs* I hope you two got back to sleep.
I do think it's related to teething; Joshua had much wailing over teething pain this morning before 6AM, and woke up quite congested three hours later. (Now he's cheerfully asleep on my bed next to me.)
Will Benjamin tolerate the saline drops at all? As much as Joshua hates them, they do always make him feel better.
