the road ahead
Nov. 5th, 2008 08:38 amLast night I literally fell over with tears of joy. I had this immense sense of being part of history, of a country that finally was really moving beyond the racism that had been so much a part from the beginning of our history, finally maybe moving beyond the politics of hate that I deeply feared would just keep growing ever stronger.
Today that is tempered by learning that California appears to have passed the measure overturning same sex marriage in that state, and Florida and Arizona have passed their own similar pieces of bigotry.
I have great faith in Obama, and, as we say, hope. He has immense work ahead of him; we all do. We can get beyond the politics of hate and fear; we are, but there is still a long, long road ahead.
