power outage

At least three over the last twelve hours or so, and six or so in the last few days. Maybe more I don't know about. Hmm... I think I need to change how I think about the availability of electricity (and not assume it will be there when I need it necessarily and allow for that.)

Do other folks keep losing power too?

Yes, a lot, but we live in the Sticks (comparatively) so we sort of expect it. We have a generator, and a woodstove, and gas grills, and candles, and kerosene lanterns, and maglites. But then we're the retro-grouse family, anyway :) In reality most of our power hits last about 30 seconds or less, just long enough to wipe the correct time off the microwave and crash my computer. The number of times we've had to actually use the generator has been once in 3-4 years.

Might I suggest a UPS for the computer? :-)

We now have one for every computer related thing in the house, including the DSL router and related bits. The last UPS (for the DSL router and firewall) is charging right now.

Last summer the only time the power went out was when we blew the circuit breaker at the old place. The AC, computer and fridge had all been on one circuit (at least I *think* the puter was on that circuit) and it blew when the cleaning people powered up the vacuum cleaner so it wasn't as such the power dying - we were able to hook some appliances up to very long extension cords :)

I have had very few experiences in my life of power going out. My total number of times probably equals about the number you've had in the last few weeks.
